Eat like Bud Spencer: Here are the recipes for beans, Burger & Co!

In addition to a decent set of hot ears, that is to say a veritable brawl, a real Bud Spencer film also includes a hearty meal, which our beloved Landvogt likes to incorporate quickly and easily. Whether the legendary bean pan from the Italian Westerns, spaghetti à la flatfoot or a burger with squeeze - here are the most iconic recipes for cooking!

Once everything that is there! This is a typical order from Haudegen Bud Spencer. This quotation comes from his western comedy "A fist goes west" and the obese gentleman with the steam hammer orders the whole thing again from the beginning after the end of the opulent meal.

Eating scenes are a regular part of the beating comedies with Bud Spencer, whether in the Western parodies with his partner Terence Hill ("My name is Nobody") or in his solo appearances, for example as Neapolitan Commissioner Rizzo in the "Flatfoot" films. That's why we picked out three classic dishes that are often plastered by the former professional swimmer during his numerous screen appearances and show you in our special how to cook them at home.

Note: All quantities are for one portion for four people (or one small starter for Bud), so if you're more or less people, simply convert!

    1. Western-style beans and bacon like four fists for a Hallelujah.

What would classics like "The devil's right and left hand" be without beans with bacon? Finally, in the sequel to "Four Fists for a Hallelujah", a decent fistfight for the rustic delicacy breaks out, which of course should be prepared and served in a cast iron pan. If you don't have one at hand, you can also use a normal pan.

    Ingredients:

    250g streaky bacon / 2 onions / 2 garlic cloves / butter / olive oil / 400g beans red (tin) / 400g beans white (tin) / salt / pepper / 2 chilli peppers / tomato paste / 800g chopped tomatoes (tin)/ paprika powder / sugar
    Preparation

Finely chop the bacon, onions, garlic cloves and chilli peppers.

Put a good dash of olive oil in a frying pan and let it heat up, fry the bacon in it, then add the chopped onions, garlic cloves and chilli peppers and fry. Then add a tablespoon of tomato puree. About a minute later, add the beans and bean water and simmer for several minutes. Add one or two pinches of sugar. When the liquid has become considerably less, add the tomatoes. Stir well and simmer for at least 15 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and paprika powder. Finally stir in a small spoonful of cold butter. This enhances the taste and Bud Spencer does not pay attention to calories. The dish is ready when the beans are through, i.e. soft. It's quite simple, but in the Wild West there wasn't any high-tech cuisine yet! Enjoy your meal!

    2. Spaghetti alla Napoletana in the style of "They called him Flatfoot"

Bud Spencer is a native Neapolitan, and so does some of his films in the hometown of the powerful and insatiable warrior, such as the thriller comedy "They Called Him Flatfoot", also known as "Buddy Catches Big Fish Only". Therefore, it is of course imperative to perform a classic Italian pasta dish and what is more suitable than classic spaghetti from Naples, which are often consumed in the "flat foot" series and often.

    Ingredients:

    1kg spaghetti / 1kg tomatoes / tomato paste / 2 cloves garlic / onions / salt / pepper / sugar / Parmesan / 1 bunch of basil
    Preparation:

Chop onions, garlic cloves and basil. Put a pot of water on and blanch the tomatoes in it (boil briefly until the skin bursts). Then remove the skin from the tomatoes, free the tomatoes from the stalk and core and cut into pieces. If that's too exhausting, you can of course buy a tin of tomatoes, but it tastes less tasty ...

For the sauce, heat olive oil in a saucepan, sauté onions and garlic, then add the tomato paste and then add the tomato pieces to the pot. Simmer for 15 minutes over low heat until a creamy mixture has formed. Season with salt, pepper and a small pinch of sugar and stir in the basil just before serving. If you like, you may also season with oregano, but this is no longer the purist, classic way of cooking.

For the noodles, put a pot of water on and salt the water. When it boils, add the pasta, stir and cook without lid, following the instructions on the packaging, until firm. That's about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the pot and stove. Then drain and divide into four deep dishes. Then the finished sauce on it and a basil leaves for decoration and of course Parmesan and finished this traditional and surprisingly vegetarian version of the Neapolitan spaghetti with tomato sauce, as it has Commissioner Rizzo alias Bud Spencer.

    3. Burger in the style of comedies like "Two out of hand"

With increasing success, Bud Spencer and Terence Hill also changed filming locations in the 1970s, and films such as "Two Out of The Box" or "Two Powerful Guys" were shot in the US, mostly in Miami. Since the characters were not fundamentally changed, they were still hungry and so the Hamburg came into play. Therefore, now comes a decent device for you!

    Ingredients:

    1kg beef / 2 onions / 2 tomatoes / iceberg lettuce / gherkin / 1 egg / 4 hamburger rolls / cheese in slices (cheddar) / tomato paste / bacon / 1 chilli pod / salt / pepper / capers / vegetable oil / lemon / butter
    Preparation

Turn the beef through a mincer, then turn a handful of capers as well, then salt and pepper the mixture. If you don't have a mincer, just buy a kilo of chopped beef (not half and half!) and chop 5-6 capers and mix them with the meat, then salt and pepper. Then form four patties of the same size out of the mixture and press slightly flat.

For the burger sauce put an egg yolk in a bowl and add two teaspoons of mustard. Then mix with a blender and, while stirring, add the vegetable oil slowly and carefully until the mixture is firm. Season with a few drops of lemon, salt and pepper. If this procedure is too exhausting for you, you can of course also buy a ready-made burger sauce in the supermarket, but then it is not so delicious...

For the cucumber relish, cut about eight small gherkins into pieces and put them in a bowl. Then add a tablespoon of tomato puree and a dash of cucumber water. Season with salt and pepper. Then puree the mixture. If it gets too firm, simply add a little more cucumber water.

Cut the tomatoes into slices, cut the salad into bread rolls, chop the chilli peppers into small pieces and cut the onions into pieces or rings (as desired). Sauté the bacon strips in butter until they are tight, then take them out, dry them on a cloth and let them cool.

Cut the burger rolls in the middle and put them in the oven for 5 minutes (approx. 120 degrees). Meanwhile, fry the meat patties in the pan from both sides (set the stove to full heat), i.e. put them in hot vegetable oil and turn them over after about two minutes.

Take the rolls out of the oven, spread the burgersauce on the underside, put the salad leaf on it, onions on it, cheese slice on it, meat slices on it, again a cheese slice on it, then the bacon, then the tomato and the chilli peppers. Finally, spread the cucumber relish on the other half of the burger roll and put it on the burger. Enjoy your meal!

You can see how Bud and Terence behave in a fine place here:

So these were three classics, as Bud Spencer has pressed down on the canvas several times. Usually in rough amounts and short speed. For more classics, such as the beer and sausage eating contest Omelette is in "Two peas in a pod," or the 20-eggs-in "they called him mosquito" no recipe needed, but rather a pinch of madness and the Gang in the next supermarket.
